The MINES Resort & Golf Club
The MINES Resort & Golf Club is in Seri Kembangan, about 15 km south of central Kuala Lumpur, on land that was once a huge open-cast tin mine. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the 18-hole, par-71 course, which was built from 1993 and opened for play in 1994. Sand was spread over the fairways as a barrier above the old mining soil, which also helps them drain quickly. The front nine works through wooded ground, and much of the back nine runs beside the large lake that fills the deepest part of the old mine, with the Palace of the Golden Horses hotel in view from several holes. The course hosted the 1999 World Cup of Golf, won by the United States pair of Tiger Woods and Mark O'Meara, and the Malaysian Open in 2003 and 2024. It runs as a private members' club, where visitors usually play through partner hotels or golf operators, and it has a driving range and golf academy. Good to know: Buggies allowed on fairways (subject to club and weather).
