Designed by legendary American architect Robert Trent Jones Jnr, The Mines is one of the most famous courses in Asia having hosted high-profile tournaments such as the 1999 World Cup won by Tiger Woods and Mark O'Meara, the 2001 Women's World Cup, 2003 Malaysian Open and CIMB Classic (2010-2012).
The vision of founder, property magnate Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, The Mines is an engineering marvel as it was built in 1993 on a site which was the world's largest open cast tin mine. The course was left to mature for one year before opening for play and today, this miracle of man and nature resembles a lush oasis with mature, tree-lined holes skirting a huge lake. Consisting of the Crane Nine and Eagle Nine, the parkland-styled course plays 6,966 yards from the championship tees and is renowned for its speedy Tifdwarf greens.
While walk-in visitors are not allowed, golfers can gain access through certain hotels.
Lined by luxurious bungalows, the golf club has a full-fledged academy and forms part of the holistic Mines Wellness City.
