About an hour and a half's drive from Kuala Lumpur, the seaside Sri Morib Golf Club is ideal for golfers who enjoy a challenging, no-frills course.
The original nine-hole course opened for play in 1977 and is generally flat, with casuarinas, palm and other trees lining the Cowgrass fairways and Serangoon greens. The thick rough, weather-hardened bunkers, ponds, streams and sea breeze add to the challenge of a round here.
When nine additional holes were completed in December 2012, the routing was changed with both nines now consisting of a mix of old and new holes - which makes it quite interesting as the new holes feature Paspalum fairways and Tifdwarf greens, lined by coconut trees and contemporary bunkering. Total par is 73 (36/37) measuring 6,208 metres from the back tees.
The clubhouse is minimalist but rather charming and good enough for refreshments and a shower after a round.
Right next door is the Impian Morib Hotel. There are many good seafood restaurants nearby.
Green fees are RM88 on weekdays and RM118 on weekends, inclusive of buggy.
