One of Malaysia's most revered clubs is Ayer Keroh Country Club (AKCC), located next to the Melaka Zoo and Ayer Keroh Lake
Designed by former Deputy Prime Minister, the late Tun Ghafar Baba who was then the Chief Minister of Melaka, the Ayer Keroh course was carved out of virgin jungle with many of the original trees retained. 18 holes, the Tunku's Nine and Ghafar's Nine, opened for play in 1964 and hosted the 1989 Malaysian Open won by American star Jeff Maggert. A third nine, the Governor's Nine, was added in the mid-1990s.
With a number of holes playing around the lake, the Ayer Keroh course is not only scenic but is one of the toughest in the country. The championship combination of the Governor's and Tunku's Nines measures a whopping 6,721 metres from the black tees and ends with one of the longest par fives in the country at 604 metres.
Visitors are welcome and green fees are RM118 on weekdays and RM144 on weekends, including buggy. Caddies cost RM38 AKCC is easily accessed being just a 10-minute drive from the Ayer Keroh Interchange of the North-South Highway.
