Malaysia Golf Tour: Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Penang & Langkawi https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/malaysia-golf-tour-kuala-lumpur-melaka-penang-langkawi/ https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/malaysia-golf-tour-kuala-lumpur-melaka-penang-langkawi/#respond Thu, 12 Mar 2026 00:22:43 +0000 https://libertygolf.com.my/?p=13656 We started our tour in Kuala Lumpur at a leisurely pace, visiting obligatory iconic sceneries and places around the city, including to the top of the famous Petronas Twin Towers. This 88 story structure was completed in 1998 and was the tallest building in the world until 2004.

No golf tour to Malaysia is complete without playing the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC). This 36 hole facility remains as one of the most prestigious golf club in Asia and has hosted many word class events including those from the US PGA Tour, European Tour and LPGA. We were amazed by service and the exclusivity - the West Course we played was quite long but the fairways were fairly generous. Bunkers cleverly positioned to protect the greens and well manicured surroundings.

Being so close to the festive Thaipusam date, we got to witness the colourful & exciting processions that took place early in Batu Caves. We spent half the day soaking in the sights and sounds of this once-in-a-lifetime experience, our cameras bursting with memories.

In Melaka, we got our bearings via the River Cruise ride, then proceeded to go on a walking historical tour to discover how Melaka got it's UNESCO World Heritage status.

Golf at Ayer Keroh Country Club was the selected course due to its attractive layout and buggy on fairway. This 27 hole golf club has some of the best natural landscape facility in Melaka.

Cameron Highlands was next, and it felt asthough we have walked back in time to a colonial period of Malaya as we play our golf, enjoyed some scones and breathe in the cool, crisp mountain air. The golf course there is a walking course and hiring a caddy is a must.

A drive up to Penang to explore the gastronomy and wonders of the island has to offer. The UNESCO Heritage sites were very charming - the Cheong Fatt Tse (Blue Mansion), the famous street arts in Armenian Street, clan houses of Khoo Kongsi and sea villages Clan Jetties.

There is only one golf course on the island while others are on the mainland side of Penang. The Penang Golf Club is a nice resort course located some 20 minutes from town center.

The last stop was Langkawi where a quick 30 minutes flight from Penang got us into an amazing island holiday. Here we played one of the most spectacular courses in South East Asia, the 18 hole Els Club Teluk Datai. There was no bunkers (yes ZERO sand traps). The course was so pristine as the views were unimaginable beautiful looking across the Andaman Sea. The sightseeing was also a nice treat with visits to the Langkawi Cable Car, Sky Bridge and Eagle Square.

First discovered in 1885 by the enigmatic British surveyor, William Cameron, this plateau sees cooling weather ranging from 16 - 24 degrees Celsius (60 - 75 degrees Fahrenheit) yearly, with lush greens and fertile soil, plus a steady tropical rainfall, were all the perfect combination to grow various vegetables, strawberries, flowers and of course, home to some of the largest tea plantations in the whole of Malaysia.

Positioned in between the capital city of Kuala Lumpur and its northern neighbour Penang, Cameron Highlands is a popular escape destination for those looking to take a break from the frenetic pace of life and work. From vigorous hiking activities favoured by backpackers all around the world, to forest trekking or walking through the mysterious yet beautiful one-of-a-kind Mossy Forest. Marvel at the vast tea plantations around the mountain sides while walking amongst ancient tea plants, learn about the life around plantations & how to make your own perfect cup of tea. Head for a round of golf with buddies at the 18-holes Cameron Highlands Golf Course (Sultan Ahmad Shah Golf Club), pitch your skills with one another over majestic forests and mountain backdrops for the perfect photo. Bird watchers are also welcomed to bring their gears, follow the local experts into the wild to spot these magnificent winged creatures that flow through various migratory routes. Embark on a tour to learn about horses at a private conservation centre, stopping over at a flower farm to look at the latest blooms as the local farmers arrange these beauties for buyers. Nature lovers will find joy in tree planting projects with specialised nature talks by local experts. Looking for an international mystery? Follow us on trails hidden in plain sight to discover the many historical secrets of Cameron Highlands before they are gone forever. And lastly, lounge around like the British planters from the days of old in rustic yet classic colonial tea houses with daily fresh-baked scones & hot brewed teas whilst breathing in the cool mountain air. One will definitely have a cherished moment (if not more) to bring home from the holidays.

German golfers enjoy golf trip ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/german-golfers-enjoy-golf-trip-ahead-of-visit-malaysia-year-2026/ https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/german-golfers-enjoy-golf-trip-ahead-of-visit-malaysia-year-2026/#respond Sat, 29 Nov 2025 02:38:41 +0000 https://libertygolf.com.my/?p=13466 We had a marvelous time escorting the Stielher & Group from Germany for their first golf holidays. This 16 day tour was their first time to South East Asia and it was certainly fantastic to have met them.

Our tour started in Singapore and then proceeded to Melaka where the group played Ayer Keroh Country Club an amazing 27 hole course surrounded by jungle serenity amidst the easy access from the highway. After that they had the opportunity to visit famous Jonker Street, the historic Dutch Square (where it is home to the Stadhuys and Christ Church) and Melaka River Cruise where they showcased the river’s charm and rich history.

The tour then proceeded up to the capital city of Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur or known fondly as KL where they would spend a few nights in the centrally located Novotel KLCC, just a pedestrian’s bridge crossing over to Pavilion KL; regarded as one of the best shopping mall in Malaysia.

What couldn’t be a worse timing is that The ASEAN Summit which had world leaders including President of the United Stated of America, Donald Trump visiting Kuala Lumpur had the city in near lockdown with road closures. Certainly became a logistics nightmare to proceed for their golf and tours planned 9 months ago. Through some creativity, we managed to get the group with minimal fuss to play at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club, a 36 hole championship course which played host to the Eurasia Cup (European Tour vs Asian Tour) in Shah Alam.

Also we've had the good fortune to visit during the time of the year where rain was in abundance with the Nine Emperor Gods Festival in full swing. Wet and challenging, but nevertheless undeterred with good spirits and camaderie for golf and exploration.

Next up, we climbed up Cameron Highlands for a wonderful change of cooling weather and another set of challenge. While it did feel like we weren't in Malaysia with the colonial-like settings of tall highland trees, beautiful mountain views, lush greens of the natural forest, strawberry farms dotting the landscapes & breath-taking tea plantations to have a cuppa with - the soil reminded us of how the grounds deferred from our home country, and how much we truly are still in tropical Malaysia.

Although unexpected, we thoroughly enjoyed hiking through hidden paths into the Mossy Forest and then re-emerging from the wild only to walk back into our wonderful 5 star hotel lobby with fully mudcaked shoes, it was an unforgettable experience of contrasts!

From the historical city of Melaka, to the bustling metropolis of KL, to the cooling mountains of Cameron Highlands, we venture north and away from the mainland to the famous island of Penang for a completely different feel in weather and landscape. A mash between bustling historical George Town city, to its full-on tropical humidity punctuated by a cooling reprieve up in Penang Hill, it was an amazing tour.

We've sampled some of the most delicious local foods available in each different location, from creamy, to dry, to spicy, to a fusion of everything, we dare say we've experienced it all in Malaysia!

Kinrara Golf Club - the turnaround golf club https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/kinrara-golf-club/ https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/kinrara-golf-club/#respond Wed, 26 Nov 2025 08:02:48 +0000 https://libertygolf.com.my/?p=13453 Kinrara Golf Club is the go to course whenever I have a long hiatus from golf for too
long and need a place to just loosen my swing. Why? It’s got an unbeatable price
and the location is still within a 30 minute drive from Kuala Lumpur. After the recent
change in management, the course also is going through a transformation towards
becoming a destination to not be missed out.

The tee box is no longer a sandbox, and life is starting to be seen. In other words,
they’ve upgraded the tee box. Albeit varying in degrees of lie, it is part of the
challenge right?

The fairways used to haunt golfers away, as it sucks away your well hit drives and
balls go amiss. But now it is no longer the case. You can see your balls bounce on
the fairways. However, the apron is still in need of some improvements, but again,
management is heading towards the right direction.

Bunkers were not in play prior to the upturn, but now, it is another obstacle to face in
Kinrara. Not the softest, but not the hardest sands to deal with either. So you’ve got
your bunker game to bring to this course.

Greens are on the slower side, so it might get a few holes to get you used to the
speed. But those chips and approaches should stick to their landing easily, so you’ve
got that going for you.

The golfer terrace is decent, plenty of choices for lunch, I would suggest the Coconut
Syrup if you are adventurous with your flavours.

The locker room facility has always been well kept clean and orderly. Now you’ve got
a glass door to separate the showers from the lockers, so the locker area is cool
enough to receive you from the heat as you complete your round at Kinrara

Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam (KGPA) - the turnaround golf club https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/kelab-golf-perkhidmatan-awam-kgpa/ https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/kelab-golf-perkhidmatan-awam-kgpa/#respond Wed, 26 Nov 2025 07:58:27 +0000 https://libertygolf.com.my/?p=13444 Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam or KGPA for short, is a golf course within 10km of
Kuala Lumpur or 3 minutes away from M Resort Hotel, which not only has location as
an attraction, but 3 well maintained nines (Hills, Lakes and Forest) for the avid golfer
to conquer.

The tee box is well maintained on all the 3 nines. As strict as their etiquette is, the
maintenance comes with it too, so win-win situation for both sides. You keep your
shirt tucked in, they maintain the course for you.

The fairways vary depending on which nines you are allocated. It just so happened
that I played Lakes and Forest on this particular gloomy morning for this review.
Lakes has fairways that doesn’t unravel its full tricks and challenges with the naked
eye, but you’ll know once you you hit your club of choice on the first tee box to start
your journey to conquer Lakes. As for Forest, the fairways are pretty straight forward,
finding the fairways is all about avoid the forest in the surrounding holes.

Bunkers are relatively soft, and as per usual, avoid at all cost. The elevated greens
can be difficult to reach once you are down in the green side bunkers. You’ve been
warned.

Greens are consistent, and you can get accustomed to it at 3 available practice
greens near the club house. Having play different courses, this always helps, so be
early, tuck your shirts, and get those putts rolling.

The golfer terrace is civil in price, so do not fret about the food service provided.
Portion is great too. If you do get hungry mid round, there is a halfway hut to
replenish those electrolytes with Neslo Ice or grab a roti sardin at the range.

The locker room facility is located near the golfer’s terrace so those tired legs don’t
have to wander too far to wash up and enjoy the rest of your stay in Kuala Lumpur!

Danau Golf Club UKM - The challenge awaits you https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/danau-golf-club-ukm/ https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/danau-golf-club-ukm/#respond Wed, 26 Nov 2025 07:54:19 +0000 https://libertygolf.com.my/?p=13438 Danau Golf Club is one of many golf courses within the vicinity of Malaysia’s university
premise. It offers a challenging experience with varying degrees of difficulty.

The tee box is better than most at this price range, slightly sandy but nothing to put
you off your tee shot.

The fairways are super wide, but be wary of where you decide to land as the
undulations can get even the better of hitters.

Bunkers should be avoided whenever possible as some have pebbles so maybe
come to a consensus when taking your scores with your flightmates.

Greens on the day I played were freshly sanded, so hitting it less than perfect would
land you back on the apron, or worse, back on the fairways. It was that fast and
unforgiving. Hardcore putters would relish the challenge the greens Danau Golf Club
has to offer.

The front nine can give you a pseudo comfort feel of wide fairways, but it also shows
golfers what is to be expected, with hills in the landscapes and trees surrounding the
horizon of the 1st hole. the back nine has a lot of tricky dog-legged holes that would
test your ability to shape your driver shots. So if you feel like prime Tiger, send it over
the hazards and OB to shortcut your approach.

The golfer terrace is priced well under the standard rate for a golf course within the
radius of Kuala Lumpur. Has a lot of local cuisines and surprisingly, has a similar
vendor to Kinrara Golf Club’s golf terrace.

The locker room facility is nothing to shout about, but it gets the job done and it’ll
have you ready for the next meeting refreshed!

All in all, Danau Golf Club is a course that rewards bravery, punishes hesitation, and leaves you with stories to tell. It’s not the most polished track around Kuala Lumpur, but for the experience, challenge, and value it offers, it’s definitely worth a visit. Whether you’re sharpening your skills, testing your shot-making, or simply enjoying a day out with your flightmates, Danau delivers a round that feels memorable in all the right ways.

Templer Park Country Club - the iconic Malaysian legend https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/templer-park-country-club/ https://libertygolf.com.my/blog/templer-park-country-club/#respond Wed, 26 Nov 2025 07:47:28 +0000 https://libertygolf.com.my/?p=13431 Templer Park Country Club is a beautiful golf course, just 40 minutes away from the
heart of Kuala Lumpur. It is to me, one of Malaysia’s must visit golf course just for the
stunning view itself.

The tee box is well maintained, a divot or two, quickly covered by caddies. But do
expect some slight degrees of slopes here and there, as Templer is rightly placed
next to caves in the nearby vicinity.

The fairways are wide, but sometimes hidden by trees, which sounds tricky, but
caddies will pinpoint you in the right direction. Fret not if that isn’t challenging
enough, on some holes, large bodies of water can mentally derail even the longest
hitters.

Bunkers are soft. End of. So make sure your bunker game is on top to get out of the
numerous bunkers placed around the greens and hugging the fairways.

Greens are consistent throughout the whole 18 holes, and speed is considered faster
than most courses in Malaysia. If you need a feel for the pace of the greens, they
have multiple putting greens for you to warm up those putts.

My most recent experience here was a shotgun start at Hole 15, par 5 to start on a
cold morning first flight tee off.

The front nine eases new comers with an easy warm welcome to Templer Park,
whereas the back nine starts to test your fairway finding abilities through tight entries
with the jungle left and right.

The golfer terrace is rightly priced for a golf course within the radius of Kuala Lumpur.
Spacious and perhaps the only place recommended to replenish or load up before
the round. A lot of wildlife awaits, so any food is best eaten beforehand.

The locker room facility is top notch and shoe-free. But don’t worry, a guard will look
over your shoes while you freshen up in a very well maintained recovery shower
experience.
