One of the best golfing experiences in northern Peninsula Malaysia can be found at Darulaman Golf & Country Club, located just 20 minutes' drive from Alor Setar city.
Designed by Australian architect Ted Parslow, the par 72, 6,340-metre course opened for play in 1992 and underwent a major renovation in 2011. The layout meanders through former rubber plantation land and provides a true test with its tree-lined fairways and undulating greens.
One of the toughest holes is the par three 11th, which plays uphill to a two-tier, left-to-right breaking green. Push your tee shot and you will end up in a ravine and if you pull it, the jungle awaits with open arms. Putting from above the hole could result in a four-putt or even worse.
Green fees are RM80 on weekdays and RM110 on weekends. Buggies cost RM80 and caddies RM30.
The clubhouse has a wide range of facilities while accommodation is available at the adjoining Darulaman Suites which offers 11 chalets and 102 rooms.
